Univision’s Se Habla USA stands in solidarity with our Afro-Latino hermanos y hermanas, as well as our Black brothers and sisters, who are hurting and seeking justice. As part of our commitment to our community, here are several action items you can take in being an ally to the Black community. In order to see a real change, we must come together, unidos contra el racismo. This starts with what matters most - la empatía.

Without a doubt, the Spanish language has had, and continues to have, enormous effects on everyday American life and culture. For most non-Hispanics, this means increased exposure to new words and expressions, new foods and flavors, and the increased presence of Latino recording artists and actors in the “mainstream” media.

According to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, about 4.4. million Latino-owned businesses in the U.S. contribute more than $700 billion to the economy annually.

And while there are so many ways in which Hispanics are changing the world, politics is and has always been the most impactful way. Many Hispanic men and women have and are paving the way for a better future through their hard work. As you sit here reading this article, you know we are in the most critical time in modern politics when it comes to Hispanic people.

The Borough of Clayton sits beneath a much better-known municipality that hosts southern New Jersey’s largest university. By contrast, the quieter, lower-income Clayton hosts three national dollar-store chains. It used to have an inn. It used to have a library.
